EB Biobank

The EB Biobank systematically collects and processes biological samples (blood, tissue, blister fluid, etc.) and related donor data. Samples come from both EB patients and from donors without EB, who play an important role as a comparison group. An expert panel carefully decides on every request for access and use of the samples. This ensures that the samples are used in research projects that serve the best interests of all EB patients.

Why?

Breakthroughs in medicine are possible only because people are willing to provide samples for research. These are essential for a deeper understanding of diseases and for the development of new treatment options. For rare conditions such as epidermolysis bullosa (EB), however, very little material is available. We want to change that. Because every single sample is extremely valuable and helps advance the development of effective therapies for EB.

Samples

EB affects not only the skin but the entire body. To understand the disease more precisely, a large number and variety of samples are needed. This allows important findings to be continuously gained and used for research. EB changes over the course of a lifetime, just as a person’s overall health evolves. Therefore, repeated sampling is necessary to show how EB evolves over time and to help us understand which therapies EB patients need at different stages of the disease. This knowledge is key to developing even more effective treatments.

Butterfly

ā€žYour participation is important.
With your support, together we can advance EB research and pave the way for more effective therapies.
Every EB patient sample counts – and brings us one step closer to our goal.
Thank you!ā€
