Strategic Advisory Board

The board brings together distinguished leaders from clinical research, biotechnology, pharmaceutical development, intellectual property, corporate governance, and academic medicine to provide independent strategic guidance and support EB RI's mission of translating scientific discoveries into treatments for patients living with EB.

The Advisory Board has been established in accordance with the shareholder agreement of EB Research Institute and will serve as an independent body providing strategic, scientific, and operational advice to the management team. The Board will review research strategy, assess development opportunities, contribute external perspectives on risks and challenges, and support the Institute's long-term growth and impact in rare disease research.

Martin Laimer - Chairman

Martin Laimer has been active in the field of rare diseases for more than 20 years, both clinically and scientifically, with a particular interest in epidermolysis bullosa. He has designed and conducted academic and industry-funded studies and participates in collaborative and consortium research programs for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Peter Llewellyn-Davies - Board member

Peter Llewellyn-Davies is an experienced biotech manager with over 40 years of international experience in company formation, IPOs, mergers and acquisitions, and financing. He is currently the founder and CEO of Accelerate Partners, where he supports management teams with growth strategies and scaling.

Bernd Muehlenweg - Board member

Bernd Muehlenweg is a recognized expert in the biotech industry with over 25 years of experience in business consulting and development, alliance management, and strategic partnerships. He has a proven track record of success in building collaborations across the entire spectrum of development and commercialization, from early- to late-stage clinical projects.

Daniela Schögl - Board member

Daniela Schögl has 25 years of experience in legal departments and patent offices in the field of IP, particularly in the protection of intellectual property and in legal disputes in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, and in-vitro diagnostics industries. She is an Austrian patent attorney, a European patent, trademark, and design attorney, and a litigator before the Unified Patent Court.

Barbara Wolff-Winiski - Board member

Barbara Wolff-Winiski has over 35 years of experience in research and development. She has guided several novel therapeutic approaches in the areas of inflammatory skin diseases and skin cancer through to clinical development. She currently leads scientific development at Akribes and is preparing a Phase 2 clinical trial for a new drug candidate for the treatment of chronic wounds.

Annemarie Weißenbacher - Board member

Annemarie Weißenbacher - since January 2026, she has been Rector of PMU. Previously, she worked as a surgeon and senior physician at the University Clinic for Visceral, Transplant and Thoracic Surgery in Innsbruck. After completing her medical studies in Innsbruck, she pursued doctoral studies as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Oxford (UK).
